I am farsighted and it’s a severe case. My glasses prescription is plus 5. My eye doctor told me not to get laser surgery because my case was so severe. I’ve heard laser surgery is not that good for people with farsightedness. Is this true/will this change in the future?

There are three areas of concern with large hyperopic corrections. 1. As per other answers, central cornea needs to be steepened as opposed to flattened. 2. The cornea can only be steepened so far. 3. Many young patients suffer from latent hyperopia – in other words, you may be +5.00 at the moment, but in fact when the accommodative nature of the eye is precluded during a cyclo refraction, you may in fact have a much higher prescription.

So, one needs to establish the complete prescription, if there is little to no difference between your current and cyclo refractions then you have the potential for a decent treatment. Secondly, you will need a flat cornea, fortunately this is a typical attribute of large hyperopic patients. Thirdly and most importantly is your choice of treatment provider. This decision from your perspective is relatively simple – there is only one laser platform in the world that can accurately deal with large hyperopic prescriptions – an Allegretto Wavelight.

Find yourself a laser provider that uses the Wavelight Allegretto and go from there.

Depending on where in the world you are, I may be able to recommend not only who uses these platforms but also some reputable clinics to choose from.

Kind regards

Every surgical procedure poses inherent risks and in this respect LASIK is no different. It just so happens that when a patient’s body is opened up and different tools are used that bacteria of some sort can enter the body. Not only that, the patient may have a reaction caused by the medication. There are risks to LASIK surgery too, but they are fewer and far in between.

The risks associated with LASIK continue to drop as the medical establishment perfect the equipment and refine their processes. The risks involved in LASIK further drop as patients become better informed and therefore choose the best doctors for their surgery.

Doctors too improved their screening methods to ensure that only the right candidates are admitted to have LASIK surgery. The latest research now shows that with the right pre-testing and surgical care in place, the risk of complications occurring in LASIK surgery is less than 1%.

The risk most common in LASIK surgery is a complication relating to the flap created by the surgeon to cover the cornea. In traditional LASIK surgery the flap is created when the surgeon cuts tissue with a surgical tool called a microkeratome. Since this tool, which is basically a metal blade is handled by a human being there is the risk of human error occurring.

When this type of traditional LASIK is performed, the risk is that when the flap is used as the natural bandage after the surgery it may not be the right size. Hence, the complication is an irregular bandage which irritates the eye and causes what is called an irregular astigmatism. This specific LASIK risk is greatly decreased by a newer “bladeless” LASIK procedure.

In bladeless LASIK the blade or microkeratome is no longer used and the risk of complication is hence decreased. It is replaced by another type of laser called IntraLase, which eliminates the potential human error.

Ask your doctor as part of your original process how they deal with a similar situation.

When evaluating these LASIK risks it is recommended that you ask you LASIK surgeon how he/she would correct such problems. Some complications that result from LASIK surgery can be made even worse by over or under correction. Ask your doctor as part of your original process how they deal with this specific situation.

 1. Advantage/Disadvantage of Surgery Surgery from your Experience
2. Best Hosiptal and Experienced Doctor in Banaglore who specialize and does Laser Surgery in Banaglore

Regards

Well, I haven’t had it myself personally, but a lot of friends swear by it, and are glad that they got it. My brother got it India through India Health Guru Consultants, and he said it was great Laser eye surgery helped millions of people to be able to see, without the help of contacts and glasses. It will help you too, but make sure you get the right doctor for the procedure. After the surgery, one feels mild discomfort or pain for a couple of days. The procedure itself is not painful because they give you anaesthetic drops to numb the eye. For the first week, one may have sensitivity to light as blurry vision and dry eyes. All these side effects disappear within a few days and. The process is simple, safe and fast. They are making big improvements in this field, so it’s probably worth it if you can afford it and don’t need to use your eyes for a few days

All surgeries have benefits as well as risks. There is always the possibility of Lasik eye surgery affecting your vision. You should thus consider the risks it carries and then take your decision.

You must make an informed decision. And thus you must learn the facts about Lasik eye surgery. You must know how the eye works and learn the intricate details about the cornea. Once you know about all this you should take time to find a good eye surgeon for yourself. One of the biggest measures you can take to reduce the risks is to appoint a talented and practiced surgeon as your surgery will be hugely dependent on who does it.

What is Lasik? Basically, it’s an acronym for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis and is a laser eye surgery procedure that can permanently correct your vision. The operation has best results in patients who suffer the following conditions: from moderate to high degrees or myopia (nearsightedness), low to moderate conditions of hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism associated with myopia, and thick corneas.

People with normal vision can perceive objects lucidly, for the lights and shadows that play on and around the object are brought to a focal point by the cornea and the lens of the eye. Ideally, the curvature of the cornea should evenly match its length. However, people with astigmatism, myopia, or hyperopia, have irregularly structured corneas. Thus the objects appear hazy or disfigured.

Lasik targets to change the shape of the corneas by an accurate removal of the corneal tissue. This removal corrects the eye focusing ability. So what are the risks?
1. The most conspicuous risk is that you might totally lose your eyesight. This could happen if your diagnosis had been wrong or the operation should not have been performed because of some other serious medical affliction. You could be pregnant, have cataracts, rheumatism, diabetes, glaucoma, lupus, etc. Lasik eye surgery must not be performed under such circumstances.

2. Another grave danger is that you will lose perception, insight or acuteness of vision because you had large pupils and very poor eye sight in the first place.

3. If you have dry ear syndrome it could be made with surgery. Again, it’s vital you discuss this with your surgeon before you agree to have any surgical work performed.

4. You might also permanently have hazy vision, reduced contrast, or see blurry ghost-like shapes that do not exist. In many cases, these are temporary and will be pointed out as risks by your surgeon.

im planning to go india in december and want to get LASIK done for my short sightedness i want to get it done in gujarat preferably in surat.any suggestions please??it has to be a good clinic.

Laser eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and Lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and Lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, Lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

http://www.indianhealthguru.com
Hope this helps.

If you look at the million of people all over the world that glasses or contact lenses to see clearly you will soon realize why laser eye surgery has become so popular. In the majority of cases, after surgery the patient will no longer rely on glasses or contact lenses to see the world through un-blurry eyes.

Many people turn to laser eye surgery commonly referred to as LASIK, as a way to get rid of the hassles of wearing corrective lenses. How many of us get tired of wearing glasses all the time? You may not wish to wear glasses for several reasons besides how you think you look. You may be a person that only needs glasses to read items up close and you keep taking them off and then forgetting where you put them. You may have to search through your purse to get your glasses just to read product labels in the store. All of these things can take the joy out of shopping or even reading the morning newspaper. If you decide to get contact lenses to rid yourself of those ugly glasses, then you will have the hassle of putting them in your eyes every morning, worrying about losing them, and of course cleaning them.

Today, these are just a few of the reasons that people are turning to laser eye surgery. However, are you a good candidate? People who are nearsighted or farsighted are using good candidates. However, if you expect to receive 20/20 vision from surgery you should forget it. Most people do not receive perfect vision after laser surgery.

Laser eye surgery reshapes the cornea, which improves the way in which light enters the eye. Most of the time, surgery is about 1 minute per eye. You will need to wear a shield until the cornea can heal.

Before heading out and searching for a laser eye surgeon you should learn if you are a good candidate. The best way to do this is to be examined by more than one ophthalmologist. Remember, not all ophthalmologist are licensed to perform this type of eye surgery and then there are some that their sole income is based on this procedure.

Just because this surgery is performed as an out patient procedure, it is still surgery and some complications can arise. Learn what the risks are prior to signing the dotted line.

I have a stigmatism but my eyes seem to be getting far sighted also. Should I wait until my far sightedness gets worse?

To become a candidate for vision correction surgery you have to be at least 18 years of age and your vision has to be stable for 2-3 years. Furthermore, there’s a cutoff for certain prescriptions (e.g., REALLY high myopia and astigmatism).

So, it sounds like your vision hasn’t stabilized so I wouldn’t consider it just yet, mostly b/c you may not be able to have it done and/or you’ll waste money b/c your vision will continue to change post-operatively.

If you are dependent on glasses or contact lenses, you may wonder if laser eye surgery is an option for everyone. Many people today are rushing out and finding an eye surgery so they no longer have to wear corrective lenses, however, if you are not a good candidate for the procedure you may soon learn that the complications are not worth the risk.

Before you make that decision, you should look at everything that is involved including the number one thing to know. Is the eye doctor licensed to perform laser eye surgery? There are not as many licensed ophthalmologist as you might think. Ask to see the certificate to ensure they know what they are doing and learn how many times they have performed the procedure. It would also be in your best interest to find out how many times they have performed the procedure with blades and without blades.

Learn what risks are involved and if your own expectations will be met with laser eye surgery. Many people that have this procedure learn that they still have to wear glasses for night vision among a few other vision problems. Just because this procedure helps you to see clearer, does not mean that you will have 20/20 vision. Be prepared for less than perfect vision.

Laser eye surgery is expensive; however, if you divide it out over the years it will amount to less than purchasing glasses or contacts each and every year. Talk with your insurance carrier, in some cases; they will cover part of the costs.

Individuals under the age of 18 cannot have laser eye surgery. The eyes are still developing and do not have refractive stability yet. Pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, persons with diabetes, or those taking medications that cause variations in vision are not good candidates for this procedure.

The best way to learn if you are a good candidate is to discuss this with your health care provider before you visit your eye doctor or ophthalmologist. Individuals that have conditions such as shingles or herpes around the eyes should give this important information to the eye doctor as well as any other health problem associated with the eyes such as any eye disease, ocular hypertension, glaucoma, keratoconus, or other eye surgeries.

Just remember, laser eye surgery is surgery! With all surgeries, even elective surgeries there can be complications such as infection and other diverse reactions. The best thing to do is to discuss your expectations and your concerns with your doctor and your ophthalmologist.
