If I relax my eyes things get out of focus. But then I become concious of it and I can actually see and feel my eyes refocus. Anyways, I don’t think I’m quite 20/20 yet. And I still have halos around lights at night.

Are my eyes going to be okay? Will the bad night vision clear up? Will I see 20/20? I know what a google search will say but I was wondering if there was anyone out there that had the procedure or knew someone of who had it.

I really really hope this works out. I tell my family and friends that everything’s okay but in reality, I’m still very worried.
Oh and my prescription BEFORE lasik was -6.00 and -6.75…..

I’m getting CustomVue Lasik the 17th. But from what I’ve researched is that most people get their complete sight within 3-12 months, especially if you have a higher prescription. This was the same for halos at night too. Customvue doesn’t guarantee that halos will disappear, but at least it should be better than what it was. Your eyes will be fine, I wouldn’t worry. Just talk to your doc and tell him/her your concerns and they will figure if its necessary to make an enhancement, since its quite common for people to need an enhancement with higher prescriptions. Here is the question: will I lose some night vision? or get some higher-order abberations? (my worst fears) Is it worthwhile for my correction? Are there other side-effects at my myopic level? If someone with experience, would be much appreciated.

You have asked several questions.

First, no the eye does not heal back to it’s normal structure with PRK. But it kinda does. What that means is PRK changes the shape of the eye by ablating tissue from the surface and deeper. This ablation of tissue permanently removes the basement membrane of the cornea (which the epithelial cells attach to). But this is really not a major issue because the epithelial cells regenerate and attach quite well to the deeper stroma of the cornea. So, the basement membrane is gone but it doesn’t affect your vision.

Second, many patients do notice a decrease in their night vision capabilities. For most, though, this is not a significant problem. The higher your prescription is (and yours is NOT very high) the greater the risk of night time vision problems.

Third, if your surgeon uses custom wave front technology, the laser actually has a better chance of DECREASING any higher order abberations than causing them.

Fourth, post op dryness is a common side effect that is independent of the degree of correction. For most, though, this dryness is temporary. I have seen some patients,though, who had pre op dryness develop permanent and disabling dryness after the surgery.

If you do not have any contraindicating factors such as large pupil size, dryness, ocular or systemic diseases, thin corneas, etc. you sound actually like a pretty good candidate. Only your surgeon, though, can tell you for sure how good a candidate you are because he will have all the information he needs to help you make this decision.

I am short sighted (-3.00) and usually wear accuvue contact lenses or, for the computer, some glasses.

My question is: Optical Express, Optimax or Accuvision?
Lasik, Lasek or Wavefront?
I want value for money, but more important is for it to work the first time, to last and for it to be as pain free as possible.

Has anyone had laser eye surgery here? Any advice most appreciated!

Ive been to optimax in finchley road. I only had a consultation but they were very good, i also saw a guy there who had just had it done and he said it was the best thing he ever did. The possibility of something going wrong is very remote. Both lasik and lasek are safe but the optician will advise you whihc is best according to the health of your eyes.

There are many instances of people having lasik surgery problems that show that not everyone wakes up with perfect vision after having had lasik eye surgery. Some patients reveal that they had lasik surgery problems for several days after the surgery and felt double vision for a couple of weeks thereafter.

It was not possible for such patients to view their computer screens for a number of weeks and the end result was being significantly under-corrected. There were also other lasik surgery problems felt after surgery such as dryness of the eyes as well as needing to wake in the night and put in drops.

Problems that Lasted 5 Months

Take the case of a 42 year woman who had Lasik surgery problems. She had conventional lasik surgery in June 2004 and had opted for monovision. However, she did not like it as it was very disorienting. Then, in September of the same year she went in for wavefront lasik enhancement and the following day, her vision was 20/20. However, lasik problems began appearing in the first week following surgery and there was a lot of strain to the eyes and she could not see things that were close to her and she had trouble focusing her eyes.

The lasik doctor told her she was +1 hyperoptic and was a normal part of the healing process that would heal itself soon, but this lasik problem made the strain on her eyes unbearable and kept her awake at night. The good news was that it took about three weeks before her near vision returned and the strain to the eyes lessened. After several weeks, this lasik surgery problem went away and she now has 20/20 vision even though it took almost five months to achieve.

Some other common lasik surgery problems are feeling dizzy and also having blurred vision, at first. However, under normal circumstances the correct vision should return the same day or by the following morning, at the very least. Other lasik problems are feeling some discomfort immediately following the lasik surgery and it may feel as if there is something in the eye.

It is often very difficult to resist the urge of rubbing one’s eyes but care should be taken not to touch the eyes until the flap has healed itself. In addition, there are some restrictions after lasik surgery and these include not using eye make-up for two weeks, not playing sports for a month and not to swim or take hot baths for two months.
