I am thinking of having laser eye surgery after having to stop wearing contact lenses due to dry eye. I have read a little about it but the Information is normally from the companies who do the operations.
Does it matter how much you pay and who does it the prices very so much any ideas?.
Hi,
I’d reccomend that you have a look at the following website: www.lasik-eyes.co.uk It contains information on all the laser eye surgery providers in the UK as well as plenty of information from and for people like yourself who are about to engage in treatment.
If you do one thing, research your treatment very well. This is not a very well regulated industry nor is this ‘like going to the dentist’. Once you have treatment done, you cannot reverse it.
Be weary of promises to improve your vision (this is not possible with laser) with various fancy sounding techniques (with the added increase in cost). Often you are quoted a particular price and treatment only for the surgeon to suggest a better/more suitable (and much more expensive) form of treatment 5 minutes before you are due to have laser.
You certainly want to have treatment done with the people/company that you trust the most. The above website has good information, read some of the forums about surgeons / companies etc and perhaps ask people on the site for further information about the particular individuals that are to carry out your treatment.
As with most things, if you want something done cheap along with average service and quality you go to ASDA or TESCO etc. Likewise with Laser eye surgery you get the ‘conveyor belt, take a number’ treatment at Optimax, Optical Express and Ultralase. Find yourself a smaller, independent specialist – they are often surprisingly cheaper besides being a whole heap better. Lasik-eyes will point you in the right direction. (£395 per eye – forget it. I’ve worked in these places, it doesn’t exist. Known as the ‘Bait and Switch’ Tactic)
Hope this helps
PS: You are welcome to email me for more detailed information about various facets of the process / industry as you wish.

I had the same problem. couldnt wear contacts anymore because my eyes were too dry. I had Lasiks done in 2006 best thing i ever did.
I recommend http://www.tlcvision.com
Dont bargain hunt for eye surgery. Dont ever mess around with your eyes. You want an excellent surgeon who has done thousands of eye surgeries.

There are different types of Laser eye treatment. And also there are different types of Lasers to perform the surgery. Laser Eye treatment will be performed by the Surgeon and what he want to accomplish. For instance, he would prefer Yag laser to perform secondary cataracts.

My Experiences – Optical Express (Nottingham)
4 weeks ago I spoke to a couple of friends who had had laser surgery . They say it was the best thing they had ever done. This spurred me on, together with looking at the statistics, and 3 wks ago I went for my free consultation.
I decided I wanted to go for the full thing, Wavefront and Intralase, thus avoiding sharp instruments, and using only lasers.
My prescription was mild R+1, L+0.75, so the cost was just over £2k
I am 41, and thought to myself, "Just trust the statistics, and be brave for 5 minutes, and you will enjoy the remainder of your life more."
So, Last Friday 7/3/08 was D-day. Got to Nottingham at 3pm and after a little wait – I was called in to do triple checks regarding facts and figures, and was taken in to the operating theatre.
Lay on the bed, nervous I had to admit, but took myself off to another place, and less than 5 minutes later both eyes were done. 10 minutes after that I was in a taxi home with sunglasses on, and thinking, "Wow, I did it".
I had always wanted it done, but never been in a financial position to do so. I was also concerned about the chances of things going wrong, but my friends successes filled me with great confidence.
No grittiness, tad sore a couple of hours later, but a couple of Ibuprofen and a half-decent night’s sleep, and woke up more-or-less perfect.
Have a little night-glare at the mo, and a bit of bruising on the eyeballs, but both will get better in a couple of weeks.
The cost sounds expensive, but it pays for itself over the years, in not buying glasses every couple of years.
If your frightened don’t be – surgeons (in this case Mr Bal Manoj – Google him) sit at the side of God.
As a sportsman (146 at snooker, 4 over at golf) I’m just glad to have my peripheral vision back, and can’t wait to get back on the golf course.

So I would heartily recommend it as I have perfect eyesight now.
Furthermore, they operate a "Recommend A Friend" deal at Optical Express, whereby the new customer gets £50 off the price if they quote a previous customer’s details, and I would also get £50 for recommending you. Email me at jordy_lad @hotmail.com and I can let you have my details.
Hope all this helps.
